Several months ago, a few of the regular readers of my Facebook page and my blog wrote to me and asked if I would start writing my daily astrology articles again. I will admit, I really did not want to do it. I have written them on and off for 10 years and how many times can you really write about daily aspects (which are usually the inner planets aspecting each other) and not eventually get bored with it. I had to find another way of writing about them or I would eventually begin dreading it. So, this incarnation of the Cosmic Weather Forecast, I have decided to find something more meaningful to write about when these aspects occur. You will notice my blending in some self-help tips along with the daily astrology in order for you to use the current planetary energies in a proactive way.

This leads me to Mercury in Capricorn conjoined to Venus in Capricorn Rx. Rx meaning retrograde – that scary word that usually is preceded by the word Mercury. Despite our pop culture knowledge of Mercury retrograde, all the planets except for the Sun and Moon go retrograde. However, the inner planets being retrograde (since they primarily deal with our day to day lives) seem to have the most influence over us. Yet, despite astrologer’s best intentions to describe what occurs during a retrograde process, it still amazes me at how these planetary motions still seem to grab people by the short hairs with their irritations and inconveniences.

I suppose the problem with retrogrades is that they shake up the flow of energy to the point where they feel alien to our modern sensibilities. Many would consider them unnatural – but are they really? So, how can we work with retrogrades in a productive way?

Claire Martin has this to say about retrogrades in her book, “Mapping the Psyche”:

“The words beginning with the prefix ‘re’ (which literally means ‘back again’) tend to be gentle, healing words describing the bringing together of that which has been previously separated. Since retrograde is a word beginning with the prefix ‘re’, we can possibly assume that planets when they are retrograde offer us some avenue towards healing circumstances that have previously been separated. In many cases (especially with Mercury and Venus), retrogrades often bring people back from the past in order for us to achieve emotional closure and help us to move beyond the emotional pain of a situation if we are willing to work with the energy.

On January 7, Mercury in Capricorn will conjoin with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. Venus retrogrades provide us with an opportunity to revisit relationships (a ‘re’ word on its own that may imply that relationships provide us with a vehicle towards inner healing) and partnerships and make repairs where necessary. Of course, this usually includes the ‘toxins’ from relationships making their way to the surface in order to make us aware (annoyingly and painfully) of any problems that may exist. Furthermore, Mercury conjoining Venus provides us a gateway through which to open dialogue and address any relationship concerns that may be occurring. In fact, if used correctly, this aspect gives us the ability to IMPROVE relationships better than ever before. All sextile aspects provide us with opportunities if we are willing to use the energy to our advantage. They are little gifts that the universe provides us with in order to make the most out of our lives. This is no exception when quick thinking Mercury is in sextile to steadfast, determined, and disciplined Saturn. Since this aspect occurs in the very early morning hours on Monday, this is a great energy to use to begin your work week.

So, what type of opportunity does Mercury sextile Saturn give us?

One of the benefits of Saturn being in aspect to Mercury is that it tends to slow the mind down enough for you to take advantage of all the wonderful thoughts you are having. As we go through life we tend to become very caught up in the high speed information data that is being thrown at us from the outside world. Mercury sextile Saturn allows us to sort through this data and categorize it into bits of useable knowledge. We can then use this data to our advantage. Another great benefit of this aspect is it prompts us to learn new things – so educational programs, webinars, self-fulfillment courses or anything that allows you to become more proficient may be of interest to you.

Monday is a great day to really take a good look at everything around you because the energies available allow you to see what needs to be fixed in your life and make changes accordingly. On the business front, this is a great day to really get down to the brass and clean out all the dead weight that is limiting your progress. This will open you up to opportunities that you may be missing.

Sun oppose Jupiter — Today’s Astrology — January 5, 2014

In my last astrological forecast, I wrote about the positive nature of Jupiterian oppositions. You see, Jupiter is the great big positive planet in the sky (called the great benefic) and although oppositions tend to bring about challenges and struggles with others, Jupiterian oppositions to the inner planets (he can be rather nasty when he is combined with the outers) are usually fairly easy to work with. The opposition to the Sun is no exception because Jupiter helps us become “all we can be”.

You will find Sunday (and for the most part the entire weekend) filled with optimism and good cheer. In many ways, you will find the strength to the take on the world. Everything will seem rosy, cheerful, and beautiful. However, during these times, we are the most vulnerable to do things in excess – overeat, oversleep, overspend, overdrink, overeverything. This could lead to unnecessary problems that you should attempt to avoid. However, if you wish to be adventurous (after all Jupiter rules Sagittarius) or take risks (Jupiter loves these also) or simply be playful, this would be a great time to let out your inner child.

There is one warning with this aspect. Since Jupiter expands any planet it contacts in the horoscope, it can lead to some problems with the Sun. If the Sun gets overinflated it can lead to self-righteousness, feelings of self-importance, and when cornered it can depreciate the value of others. Make sure not to engage in excessive arguments where being “right” is the motivation or endgame goal. Sometimes, it is ok to quietly let others be wrong.

Mercury in Capricorn opposes Jupiter in Cancer Rx

It’s our third day into the New Year, how are those resolutions working for you?

If you have already ditched them or fallen into old patterns, let me give you a bit of relief – you can always make the choice to jump back on the wagon again and Mercury in Capricorn in opposition to Jupiter retrograde in Cancer gives you the ability to do it. You see, some retrogrades are not all that bad, in fact this one can be downright beneficial.

So, how do we work with it?

Mercury is our ability to understand life, to acquire knowledge, strategize, and make plans. He is our inner head of the department of communication. In the sign of Capricorn, Mercury likes to build tangible plans and structures, likes to organize our lives, and give us a sense of mental accomplishment by achieving something meaningful in the real world. Jupiter likes to expand, to philosophize, and to find a higher meaning to life’s ordinary circumstances. When you combine these two energies together, even in opposition, we tends to see the world once again in an optimistic way. Optimism has never been a bad thing (of course, I am a fire sign, so I might be a bit biased).

Today we have an opportunity to relook at our plans and analyze both the tiny parts (Mercury) as well as the big picture (Jupiter). It’s our chance to really analyze our situation and make changes or alter our course based on what would be better for us. In life, we always get a re-do – especially under Mercury and Jupiter aspects. So, put away the sledge hammer and sort through the reasons why your resolutions did not work out for you, and start them again. Further, for business minded people, this is a great day for conferences, master mind groups, contractual negotiations, and legal activities.

Sun Square Mars — Today’s Astrology — January 2, 2014

After doing psychic readings and astrological consultations for the past 25 years, it is my experience that whenever you get planets in the relationship zones of the chart, that all hell can (and often will) break loose – especially when dealing with two potently masculine planets like the Sun and Mars. In this case, Mars is currently transiting through relationship oriented Libra (a sign he is rather weak in) and his motivations for getting what he wants and needs are either for relationships or because of them. After all, everyone wants to feel wanted in relationships – even the God of War! This can get rather tricky when the Sun is in social oriented Capricorn.

Why?

The sign of Capricorn is concerned with structures, foundations, what we achieve in the world, and our ability to take care of ourselves in society. While the Sun is in this sign, our need to build and create sustainable fortifications and strongholds are necessary in order for us to thrive in a very competitive world. Ordinarily, Mars is aligned with the Sun in this respect, but since he is in Libra his eyes are not focused on himself and his own wants and desires, yet the desires of other people. This can be extremely frustrating and can lead to enormous disagreements if one is not careful. We can often either sacrifice our worldly needs for our relationships (water signs will be prone to this) or we sacrifice our relationships for our social standing (earth and air signs take notice).

While this aspect is active, we need to be very sure of our motivations and attempt to communicate these motivations clear and effectively. In addition, we may need to make some compromises in order for our worldly life and our relationships are in balance. Otherwise, you may find yourself cantankerous, irritated, and impatient with those around you – especially if you feel challenged by them. On a more positive note, with this intensive amount of energy, it would be a great time to start an exercise program or to increase your physical activities.

Sun Conjoins Pluto in Capricorn

In my 2014 year overview blog that I wrote in November, I discussed the interesting aspects that occur at the beginning of January. We have a rather curious new moon at 11 Capricorn, which gets entangled in the already intensely explosive Uranus square Pluto configuration that has been occurred for 2 years now. I would encourage you to read that blog to get a solid grip on the energy of the upcoming year. This blog will focus on the solar aspect (meaning the Sun) and how we can interpret these energies in order to use them in a productive manner than sitting passively letting the outer planets dictate the future.

The Sun in the horoscope is about personal power. It is the planet (in astrology we consider the Sun a planet) that gives us the ability to go out into the world and be a unique individual. Its radiance makes us feel special and gives us a sense of purpose and destiny in life. On the other hand, transits of Pluto tend to tear down or eliminate any aspect of the personality that is no longer viable or of use to an individual. His movement through the heavens reveal to us the areas of life that need to be “renewed”, which first usually has to go through a process of death and decay in order for the “new” to be born.

On Wednesday, it will be necessary for us to take a very deep look at our lives. Are there areas of your life that are no longer working for you that you may need to modify in order to continue to be productive? What areas of your life to do you need to let go of? Whenever the Sun and Pluto conjoin, the issue of personal power becomes highlighted. Often, we are so caught up in our day to day activities of jobs, family, relationships, and financial concerns, that we lose track of ourselves and as a result “leak” our personal power out to others. This dynamic aspect gives us the ability to take it back, reshape it and remold it, and allows us to make our lives more durable.
