The rainbow is one of the most awe inspiring and beautiful displays of color that naturally occurs in the atmosphere. It evokes powerful images such as leprechauns and elves. In several legends, the end of a rainbow has a pot of gold that that blesses the lucky individual who discovers it with wealth, health, and immortality. However, the most significant rainbow occurs in the Bible in the famous story of “Noah’s Ark”.
In the story, Noah is the most righteous man of his generation – a generation filled with some of the most negative people up to this time. As a result of the negativity of the world, God decides that the earth needs to be purified and he instructs Noah to build an Ark and to put two of each species (continuity) into the Ark. It begins to rain for 40 days and eventually the rains subside and God makes a covenant with Noah to never destroy the earth by water again. This covenant was symbolized by the appearance of the rainbow.
In many ways, while the Sun has moved through Scorpio we were experiencing the spiritual flood or a purification process. It has been difficult for many as all the inner toxins move to the surface and we are confronted with all the problems we currently have in our lives. In Kabbalah, the Hebrew word for the sign (Kislev) connects us to the rainbow. Rav. Phillip Berg wrote this in his book called, “Kabbalistic Astrology”:
The Zohar tells us that the rainbow is the force that counter balances judgment. In the bible, it appeared in the heavens to signal the end of Noah’s flood, as a symbol of hope and new beginnings.
The promise is that we will not be destroyed by our spiritual floods – we can overcome them!
In effect, the rainbow is a powerful symbol of optimism and is the basis of the fiery sign of Sagittarius. In order for us to understand circumstances in our lives, we have to expand our consciousness and connect to the potential of the future. We are encouraged to leave the past (no matter how bad it may be) behind and try to focus on our connection with something higher than ourselves and something that allows the redemptive powers of spirit to flow through our being. As we move through the holiday season, you will notice that the energy will shift from the toxic environment of the Scorpion’s sting to its inoculation – hope, possibility, faith, spiritual connection, and the belief in a better and brighter future. The essence of Sagittarius gives us the ability to realize our fullest potential; you just have to have enough faith in yourself to give it life and meaning.
