Mercury Trine Mars — Today’s Astrology — January 24, 2014

In this blog post, I want to discuss a couple of astrological issues I normally do not have time to cover, yet I have been pondering their meaning lately.

After 25 years of doing astrological readings, I do not think we pay enough attention to the transits of the inner planets. Not enough, at all!

But, why?

Well frankly they are less glamorous. Transits of the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) last for long periods of time and tend to be rather noticeable in the outer world. For example, we currently have an ongoing outer planet transit of Uranus in Aries in square to Pluto in Capricorn. The financial markets have collapsed, the economy has been shaken, and riots and protests between the upper and lower classes have erupted around the world. Whereas, transits of the inner planets tend to affect our personal lives, our moods, and our day to day interaction with others. Additionally, transits of the inner planets happen very quickly, so we tend to pay little attention to their movements.

The second issue I want to discuss is the flow of aspects that occur throughout the year. The moon traverses the zodiac making aspects to all the planets once a month; the Sun, Mercury, and Venus transit the horoscope once a year; and Mars transits occur once every two years. However, despite planetary consistency, the planets create their aspect patterns in different signs and retrograde in different locations. So, the inner planets bring forth themes and patterns to the surface at different times creating a unique experience for all of us. Further, if these astrological events triggers planets or significance points in your chart, the themes will be amplified.

This brings me to the latest aspect of Mercury in Aquarius in trine to Mars in Libra. On January 16, Venus in Capricorn square Mars in Libra which brought to the surface a lot of hidden problems in relationships. This was followed by the insightful aspect of Mercury sextile Uranus. Mercury – Uranus aspects always bring forth new answers to resolve old problems. Now, the trend continues with Mercury trine Mars.

One of the keywords that you can use for Mars is the word ‘action’. Mars likes movement and lots of it. He really does not care about what you are doing right now, he cares about what you are going to do in the future. Alternately, Mercury has to do with the mind and our mental processes. The winged god is how we understand life and put that understanding to use by formulate concepts and ideas. When you combine these two archetypal functions together it creates a golden opportunity for us to do all difficult thinking work that we need to do. Further, if it’s a complex situation, Mars provides you with the ability to accomplish things you might normally shriek at.

So, think back to the issues that came up during the Venus – Mars square, and any insight you may have received on how to resolve it. Now, is action time! It’s a great day for you to speak your mind with clarity, and for you to express what you need to express at this time. Your confidence will be increased and you if you respond accordingly, you will find yourself BOLDER than ever.

Venus Square Mars — Today’s Astrology — January 16, 2014

Over the past 25 years of doing consultations with clients about relationships, I have come to understand that our ideas and beliefs about them morph and change as fast as the latest TV primetime lineup. Years ago, many of the problems that involved relationships were more security based. Women wanted a man to take care of them and provide them with security. Conversely, men wanted women to take care of them as well, but usually in the role of housekeeper and mother.

The good news is that as women have become more independent and self-reliant (and thankfully laws have been changed to allow that), the motivations behind relationships have changed as well. The one thing that has not changed is that many people (not all) enter into relationships with a hidden agenda.

Last week, I was speaking to a client of mine that I have consulted with a few times. She continues to go through problems with her relationship and despite her best efforts she is always fearful that he is going to be unfaithful. She becomes very anxious and heartbroken whenever he does not respond to her texts immediately and then is plagued with negative thoughts that paralyze her for days. She has a really difficult time understanding why he does not want engagement or marriage, and she feels it is because he does not feel that she is the right one. I asked her what she would like to have happen in this relationship and her response was, “I want him to marry me! All of my friends are married and I just want to be like them.” Meanwhile, her boyfriend has just started a business after being laid off in 2011 and is trying to establish himself once again. He has very little time to devote to giving her more in the relationship, and has informed her that he does not feel that he can take on the “responsibility” of marriage at this time. However, the consultation chart I was used showed that he felt pressured by her and this was the reason for his distancing. He actually wants the relationship, but he wants to build a foundation to be able to manage the relationship correctly. Unfortunately, giving him time to be ready to fully engage in a marriage is not what she is looking for. The fact is she has entered the relationship with an agenda because she wants to feel more accepted within her social circle.

So, this got me thinking about relationship struggles in general. How many times do we enter into relationships (this can be any relationship) with a hidden agenda? Despite what our partners tell us, do we often feel that we can change the situation in order to get what we want. When my client first got involved with her boyfriend, she was perfectly fine with him building a new business. Yet, when it started to interfere with her objective, she began to take things personally. This has led to a lot of agonizing pain for her that has her constantly questioning the relationships viability.

On Thursday, Venus in Capricorn will square Mars in Libra. This aspect is notorious for bringing “hidden agendas” out of their closet, and can cause difficulties in relationships. Any form of relationship tension will be tested under this aspect. The good news is that if you are unconscious about these “hidden agendas”, then they will rise to the surface so that you can deal with them constructively rather than infusing your relationship with toxic poisons.

Take some time out to really get clear about your objective in your relationships. This may mean that you have to ask yourself some hard questions including whether or not your relationship is giving you what you want and need at this point in your life. For example, it is not wrong to want to get married. It is not productive to force someone that is not ready for martial commitment to be ready when you want them to be. In addition, you may need to have serious discussions (be careful though because this aspect can cause intense arguments) about your relationships to make sure everyone is on the same page. However, when we get to the roots of what we really want and need we can begin to make decisions and choices that are more productive to achieve what we really desire in the future.

Mars Square Jupiter — Today’s Astrology — January 8, 2014

Whenever two fire planets (Mars is the ruler of Ares, Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius) aspect each other, you can expect an abundance of energy regardless of what the aspect is – especially if Jupiter is involved. Fire planets make us feel alive, inspired, and prompt us to look at the potential future with optimism. Usually, there is a flurry of activity in regards to the ‘outer world’ – career, work, travel, etc.., but with Jupiter being retrograde it is the inner world that is activated.

So, what is this inner world?

The inner world is the real you. It is the part of us that is authentically ourselves, without the masks we use in order to navigate through the physical world. It is the side of you that is behind closed doors that only a few people get to see. The inner world is all about our true nature stripped to the bare bones without all of the outer illusions that are so often projected upon us.

On January 8, 2014, Mars in Libra will square Jupiter in Cancer. This aspect offers enormous optimism and incredible energy for success at anything you put your mind to as long as you control the energy and take the time and patience to let things manifest. The difficulty that comes out of this aspect, is when we want things to happen instantly and react to situations and circumstances in an impulsive manner. This is a great aspect to begin to act (Mars) on future projects. Mars and Jupiter provide plenty of fire and stimulus to get any project moving and off the ground. Further, if you do any form of intention work, this is a great time for you to set your intentions into the universe.

The only warning with this aspect is overextending yourself or using up to much energy. This could lead to potential difficulties down the road or unforeseen setbacks.
