Let me interrupt this forecast with some very good news – Mercury turns direct at 3:17 PM EST and should fee up any communication tensions you have had over the last three weeks. Anything that you have put off till the retrograde is over, you are now free to proceed with, and you should begin to see steady improvement in all affairs rules by Mercury over the next two weeks.

Today, the Sun and Moon will conjoin in Scorpio. Relationships will come into focus as we find ourselves more social than normal. It is a great day for romance, spending time with our friends and generally enjoying life. Since Venus loves a little bit of indulgence, spend the day relaxing and luxuriating; make a nice satisfying meal with all the foods you love or buy yourself something you have been eyeballing at the store. All financial activities are beneficial today, so take advantage of this energy to get in on a good deal!

Today we have a few sign changes – The Sun and Venus both move out of civilized Libra and dive head first into the murky instinctual waters of Scorpio. Since I will dedicate a post to the Sun in Scorpio elsewhere (solar eclipse blog), I will use this space for Venus.

Venus naturally rules the sensual physical realm of Taurus and the rational civilized world of Libra, and when she is in Scorpio she is considered in detriment. This means that the energies of the sign do not cooperate or work well with the natural energies of the love goddess. Scorpio, like all the water signs, requires depth of feeling and emotional closeness which limits Venus’ ability to do whatever she wishes to do when she wants to do it. In essence, she is bound to what she loves and in the sign of Scorpio, Venus needs more out of relationships than what our cultural idealisms dictate. As such, Venus in the sign of the scorpion can express some of her darkest characteristics – jealousy, possessiveness, and a need to control those around her.

While Venus is in Scorpio, we can look within to discover areas of our life where we may be jealous, envious, possessive, and how we may harbor hostility and bitterness towards others. These are powerful emotional experiences which may limit our relationships with others and getting to the root of our feelings will often provide us with the ability to love in its more deepest capacity – unconditionally. By dealing with emotional hurts, Venus in Scorpio regenerates our souls and provides us with the ability to be ourselves and allow others their own individuality as well.

Today, Mercury retrograde in Libra joins forces with the love planet Venus to give us another fun filled and enjoyable day. You will find the company of friends and other people rather pleasing and it’s necessary for you not to be overburdened by responsibilities and duties. In fact, it is a great day to take short trips and visit people – especially those that are important to you that you haven’t spent time with in a while.

On the romantic front, today is a great day to get in touch with your romantic feelings. Are you getting what you want and need out of your relationships or does the relationship need to be tweaked? Today, Venus in Libra makes a favorable aspect to Jupiter in Leo. Now, I will admit this is not the most opportune day (Tuesday) for this aspect to occur, because the general nature of the two planets is not to take things too seriously and it is known for its ‘fun’ side rather than its mundane application. However, where business is concerned, Venus sextile Jupiter is great for financial matters, making deals, and resolving legal matters – although keep in mind that Mercury is retrograde and it is recommended not to finalize business plans or sign contracts at this time.

After the work day is over (of if you are lucky enough to have Tuesday off), it is a great day for fun filled associations. The general energy of Venus-Jupiter leans towards enjoying the company of others and giving/receiving generosity. Today is a great day to reach out to your social circle and spend some time focused on fun activities rather than anything too serious. Additionally, any new friendships or relationships that begin under this influence should prove beneficial and will bring out your best qualities.

Venus Square Mars — Today’s Astrology — January 16, 2014

Over the past 25 years of doing consultations with clients about relationships, I have come to understand that our ideas and beliefs about them morph and change as fast as the latest TV primetime lineup. Years ago, many of the problems that involved relationships were more security based. Women wanted a man to take care of them and provide them with security. Conversely, men wanted women to take care of them as well, but usually in the role of housekeeper and mother.

The good news is that as women have become more independent and self-reliant (and thankfully laws have been changed to allow that), the motivations behind relationships have changed as well. The one thing that has not changed is that many people (not all) enter into relationships with a hidden agenda.

Last week, I was speaking to a client of mine that I have consulted with a few times. She continues to go through problems with her relationship and despite her best efforts she is always fearful that he is going to be unfaithful. She becomes very anxious and heartbroken whenever he does not respond to her texts immediately and then is plagued with negative thoughts that paralyze her for days. She has a really difficult time understanding why he does not want engagement or marriage, and she feels it is because he does not feel that she is the right one. I asked her what she would like to have happen in this relationship and her response was, “I want him to marry me! All of my friends are married and I just want to be like them.” Meanwhile, her boyfriend has just started a business after being laid off in 2011 and is trying to establish himself once again. He has very little time to devote to giving her more in the relationship, and has informed her that he does not feel that he can take on the “responsibility” of marriage at this time. However, the consultation chart I was used showed that he felt pressured by her and this was the reason for his distancing. He actually wants the relationship, but he wants to build a foundation to be able to manage the relationship correctly. Unfortunately, giving him time to be ready to fully engage in a marriage is not what she is looking for. The fact is she has entered the relationship with an agenda because she wants to feel more accepted within her social circle.

So, this got me thinking about relationship struggles in general. How many times do we enter into relationships (this can be any relationship) with a hidden agenda? Despite what our partners tell us, do we often feel that we can change the situation in order to get what we want. When my client first got involved with her boyfriend, she was perfectly fine with him building a new business. Yet, when it started to interfere with her objective, she began to take things personally. This has led to a lot of agonizing pain for her that has her constantly questioning the relationships viability.

On Thursday, Venus in Capricorn will square Mars in Libra. This aspect is notorious for bringing “hidden agendas” out of their closet, and can cause difficulties in relationships. Any form of relationship tension will be tested under this aspect. The good news is that if you are unconscious about these “hidden agendas”, then they will rise to the surface so that you can deal with them constructively rather than infusing your relationship with toxic poisons.

Take some time out to really get clear about your objective in your relationships. This may mean that you have to ask yourself some hard questions including whether or not your relationship is giving you what you want and need at this point in your life. For example, it is not wrong to want to get married. It is not productive to force someone that is not ready for martial commitment to be ready when you want them to be. In addition, you may need to have serious discussions (be careful though because this aspect can cause intense arguments) about your relationships to make sure everyone is on the same page. However, when we get to the roots of what we really want and need we can begin to make decisions and choices that are more productive to achieve what we really desire in the future.

Sun conjunct Venus — Today’s Astrology — January 11, 2014

Earlier this morning, we had the lovely aspect of Venus retrograde sextile Saturn which has given us an ability to communicate effectively in relationships in order for us to get our relationships moving in the right direction. Now, the Sun is going to conjoin with Venus which is going to put a little sparkly glitter on your already frosted cake.

In horary astrology, one of the aspects that is considered a marriage aspect is Sun conjunct Venus. Additionally, when progressed Venus aspects the Sun or the progressed Sun aspects Venus, significant relationships often occur – relationships that often lead to marriage.

But, why?

The Sun and Venus are both solar planets. The Sun makes us aware of our destiny and its job is to shine. Venus is the relationship planet; she gives us our ability to seek out relationships with others and makes us feel desirable. When these two planets get together, everything just looks better, is more enjoyable, and we put forth our most attractive face. The conjunction of the Sun and Venus allows us to “sell our personal wares” to others, and the energy makes them more receptive to purchase our “goods”.
